Chapter 18
1 After this, David struck the Philistines, subjugated them, and took Gath and its daughter-towns from the hand of the Philistines. 2 He struck down Moab, and the Moabites became David's servants, bearing tribute. 3 David struck Hadadezer king of Zobah as he went to set his hand at the River Euphrates. 4 David captured from him a thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. David hamstrung all the chariots and left a hundred chariots from him. 5 The Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, and David struck down twenty-two thousand men of Aram. 6 David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and Aram became servants to David, bearers of tribute. And the LORD saved David wherever he went. 7 David took the gold shields that were on the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. 8 From Tibhath and from Makon, cities of Hadadezer, David took a very great amount of bronze. Solomon made the Sea of bronze, the pillars, and the bronze utensils. 9 Tou king of Hamath heard that David had struck the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah. 10 He sent Hadoram his son to King David to ask for his peace and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him down—for Hadadezer had been a man of wars with Tou—and all the vessels of gold and silver and bronze. 11 King David also consecrated them to the LORD, along with the silver and gold that he had carried off from all the nations: from Edom, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Philistines, and Amalek. 12 Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. 13 He put governors in Edom, and all Edom became servants to David. And the LORD saved David wherever he went.
